Just found an iPhone video that has gone viral in Youtube attracting more than 2.7 million views since October 14 2010. Wow, that is an amazing number of views in less than 2 weeks?!? So, what is so great about this video that has made it gone viral in Youtube.
Let’s check it out……
It was created by a band called the “Atomic Tom”. In the video, they performed their song “Take Me Out” using only iPhones loaded with instruments Apps. At the start of the video, they have claimed that they have lost their musical instruments and needed to improvise by using the iPhones as their musical instruments. They later confessed in an interview with ABC News that their musical instruments were not stolen and they actually have battery-powered amplifiers under their seats to boost up the sound from their iPhones.
Below is the video that has gone viral in Youtube:-
Well, a lot of people from Youtube commented that they are very talented…………… The iPhone Malaysia Bloggers think that they are not too bad but there are equally good ones from Malaysia like the Penang iBand. Malaysia Boleh! Penang Boleh!
Check out some of the videos produced by Malaysia’s very own iBand below:-
Penang iBand performed “Love Story” by Taylor Swift
Penang iBand performed “Kiss Goodbye” by Wang Leehom
Really keeps me wondering what is the real difference between the videos by Atomic Tom vs Penang iBand. Both has got talent but one has gone viral in Youtube but not the other. If you know the answer, do let me know by providing your comments below.
The race for smartphone market dominance continues to get more heated as the entire smartphone market grew by a whopping 78% annually to 77 Million units. In the Q3 2010, Apple has finally surpassed Research in Motion by shipping 15.4 Million units of iPhones globally compared to RIM’s 12.3 Million Blackberries, the Researchers at Strategic Analytics reported yesterday. With the 78% growth rate, the smartphone market is certainly on a major upswing. The top spot in the smartphone market still belongs to Nokia who is the top dog with 26.5 Million units shipped globally in the same quarter.
There may be more bad news coming to RIM as more and more corporates are slowly beginning to accept the iPhone as a corporate phone(a market that was dominated by RIM previously).
This Q3 2010 results may be skewed a little to Apple’s favour because of the launch of its iPhone 4. Since RIM has recently launched its Blackbery Torch, let’s see if they are able to wrestle back the 2nd spot from Apple in the coming 4th quarter. :-)
Since the announcement of the Malaysian Budget 2011 by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last Friday, many people have been asking if we will be expecting any price drops in the price for the iPhone 4.
So, let’s investigate on what has our PM said and if there will be any drop in the price of the iPhone 4 due to the Budget 2011……..
“ordinary mobile phones are subject to 10 per cent sales tax but mobile phones with various applications such as Internet and personal digital assistant (PDA) are exempted from sales tax,” said Najib. “For the purpose of streamlining tax treatment, the government proposes that sales tax be exempted on all types of mobile phones.”
What this means is that, in the past(before the budget 2011 announcement), PDAs or smart phones are already exempted from sales tax. The additional sales tax exemption on ordinary mobile phones are given to be consistent with the tax treatment on Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Since the iPhone 4 is classified more as a PDA than an ordinary phone, it would have been exempted from sales tax anyway.
As such, the budget 2011 announcement will likely have no effect at all on the price packages for iPhone 4 offered by Maxis and DiGi.
Any price drops(if any) on the iPhone 4 will likely be due to the competition between the 2 telcos(Maxis and Digi) to gain a bigger market share and not because of the Budget 2011 announcement.
The wait for iPhone4 in Malaysia is finally over…… :-)
The iPhone 4 will be available for sale from Maxis in Klang Valley on the 26th September and selected stores nationwide from the 27th September 2010 onwards. Digi has not announced when their iPhone 4 will be available yet. From market rumours, Digi’s iPhone 4 should be available about the same time as Maxis although no pricing has been disclosed yet. Below are the pricing for the iPhone 4 from Maxis. There are 2 types of plans that are available from Maxis i.e. the iValue Plans and the iData Plans:-
KT has finally launched the iPhone 4 in South Korea on 10th September, 2010(Friday) after regulatory approval had prevented the iPhone 4 to hit the stores earlier this year. Customers have patiently braved the rain and waited in long lines to be among the first in the country to get their hands on the Apple iPhone 4 device.
KT has received over 300,000 pre-orders, but only 10,000 units available for sale during the launch according to Korean Times.
Apple launched the iPhone 4 on June 24 in the United States and several other countries. Since then, the company has been expanding into additional markets around the world. News from some insiders indicate that the iPhone 4 will be hitting the Malaysian shores sometime end September. We shall see if this will generate as much an interest in Malaysia as compared to Korea. i am sure many people are just as eager to get the iPhone 4 in Malaysia as compared to Korea……
Below are the extracts from the news on Korean Times website:-
Intel Corp., the world’s largest chipmaker, agreed to buy Infineon’s Wireless Solutions (WLS) business for about $1.4 billion, gaining a foothold in the mobile- phone business it has struggled to crack for more than a decade. A definitive agreement to transfer Infineon’s Wireless Solutions (WLS) business to Intel has been entered in a cash transaction valued at approximately $1.4 billion.
Infineon, Europe’s second-biggest semiconductor maker, expects the all-cash transaction to close in the first quarter of 2011, according to a statement today. The business makes third-generation, or 3G, chips for devices like Apple Inc.’s iPhone and Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy S.
WLS, a leading provider of cellular platforms to top tier global phone makers, will operate as a standalone business serving its existing customers. WLS will also contribute to Intel’s strategy to make connected computing ubiquitous from smartphones to laptops to embedded computing.
Apple released the iOS 4 in June 2010. i have heard some of my friends who were using the iPhone 3G complaining about the iOS4 after the upgrade. There were also quite a number of blogs and forums with complaints about the iOS4 for users of iPhone 3G as well.
Although Apple claimed that the mobile operating system would work on both the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, users have not been very unsatisfied with the performance that they recieved after the upgrade. In addition to that, there are people who indicated that the operating system causes reduction in the battery performance of the iPhone.
Other low performance indicators include a drop in the responsiveness of the smartphone, and the lagging of many applications. It seems that the recent iOS 4.0.1 update did little to alleviate the probelms faced by users.
Following the recent spate of problems with regards to mobile connectivity in the iPhone 4, Apple is taking this new series of complaints very seriously. The iOS4 offers over a hundred enhanced features for the iPhone, and the new software release causing problems is regrettable.
So, if you are currently using the iPhone 3G and plan to update your software to the IOS4, i would strongly recommend that you hold that back for now until a more stable version of the iOS4 software is out.
Below is a youtube video which highlights some of the issues on the iPhone 3G which has been upgraded to iOS4:-
i came across an interesting article about “Smartphone apps could be sharing your private data” from NYDailyNews.com that i believe i should also post it in here for the benefits of my website visitors. The reason i am posting this is more for awareness purpose and not to cause any stir among users of smartphones. The end of the article also mentions that “Apple and Goggle are doing a great job trying to keep these platforms secure,” Hering told Technology Review, “but that does not mean anything if the developers are introducing vulnerabilities using third-party development kits.” So, if your iPhone is jailbroken, it may have a slightly higher risk compared to non-jailbroken iPhones.
Below is the article written by Sherry Mazzocchi from NYDailyNews.com:-
Smartphone apps could be sharing your private data
You might not give out your phone number to strangers, but the free app you downloaded on your phone might be doing just that.
Technology Review reported that apps downloaded on mobile devices can collect users’ sensitive data – such as phone number, location and contact lists – catching users as well as application developers unaware.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced during the iPhone 4 press conference that Apple will be giving away the protective cases to buyers of its latest iPhone to alleviate the so-called “death grip” problem in which holding the phone with a bare hand can muffle the wireless signal. This will be eligible to the more than 3 million people who have already bought the iPhone 4 as well as new buyers through Sept. 30. People who have already purchased the $29 “Bumper” cases on their own will also be refunded. In addition to that, if purchasers are still unhappy with the iPhone 4(before or after they have got the free cases), Apple will offer a full refund if the iPhone 4 is returned undamaged within 30 days. So, the message that Steve Jobs is sending out is quite loud and clear and that Apple loves their users and try very hard to delight and surprise them.
Below is the live coverage on how he communicated this message during the iPhone 4 press conference call:-
So, apart from this key message that Apple CEO Steve Jobs would like to convey to the new purchasers of the iPhone 4, what else did he cover during the iPhone 4 press conference?
Apple will be holding a press conference on this coming Friday(16th July, 2010) 10am PST. The topic of discussion is about the iPhone 4. Most likely it is to address the issues related to the iPhone 4 Antennas. For the past 3 weeks, there have been a lot of complaints about the iPhone 4 antennas. Most of the complaints are citing signal loss issues when it is held in a certain way.
With the strong sales recorded for the iPhone 4, Apple has better address this issue well. Otherwise, they may be pissing off some of their most loyal and die-hard fans. Apple has recorded 1.7 Million units sale in the first 3 days of launch. This is another record in the Apple history. In 2008 and 2009, Apple has sold 1 million each of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS respectively in their initial weekend of sales.
Apple has initially claimed that the antenna issue was merely a software problem that the onscreen signal strength display is over-stating the actual signal strength. Consumer Reports and some other sources have conducted a laboratory test which proves that the iPhone 4 does suffer from higher signal attenuation compared to other devices and that a software fix will not be able to solve the problem. With this report going into mainstream news, Apple is once again in the hot seat.
Below is the video by Consumer Reports about the iPhone 4 antenna issue.
So, what will Apple be announcing this coming Friday?
iPhone 4 is finally launched in the US, UK, Germany, France and Japan. The pre-orders for iPhone 4 has exceeded 600,000 and is giving AT&T servers some problems last week. The iPhone 4 launch is probably going to be another big hit and may yet set another record for the Apple launches.
In June 2010, apart from the “Waka Waka” style World Cup Kickoff in South Africa which is gaining a huge following, i suppose the iPhone 4 launch is also not to be left out.
Below are some of the pictures captured before the launches at various places above. The below pictures are courtesy of Engadget.com and Wired.com.
With many people still wondering what is really new with the new iPhone 4. Let’s listen to what was presented by Steve Jobs himself at the WWDC conference in San Francisco recently. Enjoy the video. i particularly like the way he was joking about some of you might have already seen this……but believe me. You ain’t seen it. :-) This is how a genius turns something that is negative into positive. Instead of reacting negatively to the iPhone leak incident, he has responded positively and make a joke out of it. Steve, you really deserve to be the man of the decade! Enjoy the video.
